I thought that up until this moment I had done all the "right" things that were supposed to set me up for success in my adult life.

I went to Church, strived to be a good person, stayed out of trouble, went to college, got good grades, and sought to live the values I was raised with.

I also believed I had been taught and given all the tools I needed to crush it during this life chapter.

But little did I know, I was unprepared for the harsh reality waiting for me after my graduation ceremony from university.

I found out some real life lessons about adulting, like:

⚠️ My friends don't live close to me anymore and I have to start my social circle from scratch. Some of these new friendships are feeling like a curse, but I don't know how to "end" them. Plus, the friendships that are working take a lot of effort and intentionality. 

⚠️ People aren't hiring me and lining up to throw lots of money my way just because I have a degree. Not to mention, it doesn't look like that dream job is going to be the first opportunity I'm offered.

⚠️ Dating is awkward, difficult to navigate, and it's really exhausting not knowing if it's going to work out or not. I want to learn how to do this well without feeling sleazy or insecure.

⚠️ I have to pay back every dollar I borrow via credit cards and school loans. Interest is accruing. My parents aren't going to pay for it and the government sure as crap isn't going to forgive it.

⚠️ I have some issues that keep coming up in my life and the weekend isn't making them go away. Self-medicating and distracting myself are only going so far.

⚠️ I want to be married with kids some day but sometimes I have trouble knowing how to take care of myself, let alone figuring out what makes for a successful marriage and family.

⚠️ I love my family, but there's a lot of unfinished business and drama that I have no idea how to bring up or resolve in a healthy way.

⚠️ My Catholic faith is important to me, but it's hard to pray consistently, I don't know how to get plugged into a faith community, I say all these prayers and feel like they're never answered, and I wrestle with some of the teachings of the Bible and the Church; not knowing the best way to apply them in my every day life.

⚠️ I keep running into obstacles and making mistakes. I'm trying to stay positive about my life's purpose, but this adulting thing has me wondering if I'll ever find out what that is.

I felt too lazy to reinvent the wheel and I certainly didn't want to learn everything the hard way through my own trial and error. So I started scouring the internet, I heavily researched the self-help section of bookstores, and I picked the brains of professionals in all these different areas of expertise whenever I got the opportunity to do so in person. And while I was excited to be learning all of this content to grow my adulting skills, I was simultaneously overwhelmed at:

⚠️ The endless volumes of sites, articles, books, seminars, videos, and events about these topics.

⚠️ The vast number of varying and conflicting opinions I discovered when it came to the questions I had to all of these matters.

⚠️ The lack of direction I was given in being able to effectively APPLY ALL THIS INFORMATION so as to see some real, lasting change in my life.

I was also disappointed at the lack of resources out there, geared specifically towards Catholic young adults in the Church who wanted to do this adulting thing right, not merely according to the world's standards, but Biblical standards. 

The Catholic resources I did find seemed either too intellectual, or cheesy, and ultimately out of touch with young adults of today.

I'm not hating on the genuine efforts people have made, I just personally wasn't attracted or excited about what I was seeing out there for young adults of the Church.

You can do this.

All that you've needed is the right person to explain it to you and the right opportunity to learn what you need to know.

There's so much information out there and it can be confusing, plus, it's often that information overload that keeps you from success. 

The critics around you, that negative voice in your head, and that devil on your shoulder want you to think that it's impossible for you to live a successful and blessed adult Catholic life.

They want to remind you that the reason you won't get ahead of your struggles is because of _________. 

I'm here to call out their bs and let you know that it's not true. 

In Jeremiah 29:11 the LORD says, "For I know well the plans I have in mind for you... Plans not to harm you, but to give you a future and a hope."  

God cares for you, has a beautiful plan in store for you, and wants you to live a life that is full.

I'm going to do my part in helping you get there.  

How can you possibly say that with conviction? 

Because when I look at my own life and where I was at when I started the journey of adulting vs. where I'm at now:

✅ Struggling in faith vs. Walking in confidence in my relationship with God through a vibrant prayer life and sacramental life in the Church

✅ Being so afraid of commitment and conflict resolution vs. Making wisely thought out decisions and not shying away from important conversations in relationships that need to happen

✅ Being unemployed and unmotivated vs. Running my own ministry / business for the last 10 years that has been successful both financially and spiritually

✅ Being tens of thousands of dollars in debt vs. Being totally debt free for the last 6 years, investing towards my future retirement, and being able to live out financial freedom

✅ Being so insecure about my self-worth and my ability to date vs. Discerning my vocation, learning how to ask a girl out, marrying the girl of my dreams, becoming the husband and father I'm called to be, and living out the family life I've always wanted

I can honestly say my life is living proof that with the grace of God, all things are possible!
